ADS documents existing buildings with a laser scanner and turns the scan into drawings. What does it cost?
Area, complexity, deliverables and travel. A stripped industrial bay is quicker to draw than a finished office with exposed services; point cloud plus 2D CAD is the base tier and Revit adds time. The quote is itemized.
Is it worth bringing you in from out of town?
Generally yes for a building or floor. The scan is a single short visit, the drafting is remote with any vendor, and travel sits on the quote as its own line for you to judge.
How accurate is it?
We scan with Leica RTC360 and BLK2GO scanners and the Matterport Pro3 and draft from the point cloud. Every dimension is measured, including the ones in a plant where columns, pipe racks and mezzanines never quite match the original drawings.
Does the building have to close?
No. Production, office and retail space stays in use; the technician works around people and equipment. Off-shift scanning can be arranged.
Will the drawings work for my permit?
Yes. The set is the existing-conditions base your architect or engineer submits. In Cedar Rapids, building permits are issued by the City's Building Services Department at 500 15th Avenue SW, with applications and inspection requests through its online Customer Self-Service portal. Your design professional files; we make sure the existing conditions are right.
Who owns the files?
You do. Point cloud, CAD, PDF and Revit are delivered to you to share with your consultants and contractor.
